I love this light blue gown by Oscar de la Renta. It’s out of control gorgeous. Bananas! As Rachel Zoe would say.

OK I really would like to know what you all think about this. I was watching that show “Say Yes to the Dress” on TLC – you know the show that takes place at Kleinfeld’s and follows different brides and their families as they choose a dress. Anyway, I was watching this one episode where the employees were basically saying that it is not cool if you just come in to try on dresses and “play dress up.” OK I get they don’t want anyone just randomly trying on dresses and I do understand they work on commission, but I don’t understand why I have to commit to anything on my first visit. I don’t know about you, but when I shop, especially for a WEDDING DRESS, I like to try a bunch on and compare. Go to several stores and see what’s the best out there. Hell I’m like that with a pair of shoes, of course I’m going to be like that with a wedding dress. I also prefer to look at dresses myself and pick them out myself. But in wedding world, this isn’t kosher. I didn’t realize this at first when I went dress shopping, but after I got annoyed looks at the end of my sessions, I realized that they actually expected me to pick “the dress” that day. I mean how could I?? I had only gotten to see the 8 or so they’d pulled from the back. There could be hundreds more that are better! I really hated that most of the time I couldn’t pick them out myself. I just had to describe or show pictures of what I thought I wanted and they would go in the back and choose them for me. I mean what if I found a cheaper one that I liked? They sure as heck weren’t going to pick that one out if I said my budget was $3500 (it wasn’t).

In conclusion, I do NOT like the process of wedding dress shopping, and I want to know why it has to be so regimented and unlike any other shopping experience. What’s so wrong playing dress up and trying on a bunch of dresses to see what you like? I want it to stop. When I did get a dress, it was from a more affordable and less intrusive place that I could look at all the dresses myself and didn’t feel the pressure to buy anything on the spot. So shout out to Victorian Rose Bridals. Woowoo!

My future summer home :)

My future summer home :)

Weeeeeeeeee! I’m off to the Hamptons this weekend to help with a wedding. I’m so stoked. I’ve never been to the Hamptons, so I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures for sure. The weather is looking glorious this weekend too, so that should make for a fantastic trip and a beautiful wedding. Maybe I’ll go try to stalk my favorite Food Network Chef, Ina Garten, while I’m out there. I know she films at her house out there and drives around in her matching BMWs with her hubby. I’ll keep my eyes open!

Did everyone have a nice Labor Day weekend? The hubby and I went to IKEA and I had a bite of one of their cinnamon buns, it was glorious! So then we bought a take home box of 6. We’re fat people I tell you.

A: P’shaw! If that’s your future summer home, then I’m living with you every summer in the future. Me, Randy, Jack and about 40 other people. Take lots of pics of the Hamptons. Do you know which “Hampton” you’ll be going to?

Just wanted to let you guys know that I’m going to be part of a feature article in an upcoming edition of the Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine. Eeek! I’m not too clear on the details as of yet, but I’m pretty sure the photos will be taken on September 23rd. So, once everything is set in stone and I’m completely positive about everything, I’ll fill you guys in! How cool is this? And my friend Ashley’s going to take part in the fun too!

Guess this means I need to go to the gym, stat!

So since our wedding today was school-themed, it seemed appropriate to do a post about chalkboards. I absolutely love chalkboards. I used a little antique one at my wedding ceremony. They make for a cute vintage/rustic look at an affordable price. I’ve seen them used a lot in weddings in all formats. Here are a few examples I collected:

chalkboards

You can make a chalkboard yourself just by buying (or finding!) an antique picture frame or window pane (they’re cool too) and chalkboard paint at your local hardware store then spray painting it on a thin piece of wood. Tahdah! Instant beautiful chalkboard for your wedding. Here are some people made themselves:

OK I went a little chalkboard crazy, but look at some of these kitchens! I would kill for my kitchen to look like any of these. Of course I would threaten anyone who didn’t have great handwriting not to touch it.

K: Fun fact: The picture of the mini chalkboards on popsicle sticks sticking out of the grass are from Gifts for the Good Life. We have that exact display in our boutique at The Wedding Library. But sadly, I don’t like chalkboards. I don’t like the dust on my hands or the sound the chalk makes on the board. Makes me cringe.

Well, it’s official. I’m hooked on weddings and everything about them. I am literally having a blast at my internship, (and I’ve only been there 3 days, haha) and adore learning everything I can about this exciting industry. My sister and I always toss around the idea of joining forces and opening our own wedding styling company and the more I think about it, the more I really believe that we should. And I think we would be good at it too!

My sister is, honestly, one of the most creative and talented people I know, and weddings are totally her thing- she just gets them. Weddings are such inspiring works of art. You can approach them from so many different angles and be creative in so many ways. It breaks my heart to meet a soon to be bride who is apathetic about her wedding day. I remember the high I got when planning the details of each and every little thing. I honestly think that my sister and I would make a pretty dynamic team and with the way things are in this economy, sometimes you just have to take risks to get what you want. Nothing would make me happier than to work with soon to be brides to design their dream day. No matter how large or small the budget may be, every bride deserves their dream day and I want to bring that to life. There is nothing more beautiful than a genuinely happy bride. For now, I plan to use this internship as a gigantic learning experience and work as hard as I can to gain as much knowledge as possible about this dynamic industry. So stay tuned in the next couple of years, maybe our dream will come true :)

Hooray! Today is the first day of my new internship! I’m really excited but I definitely have some butterflies. I’ve had a very productive morning. I went to the gym, had a good breakfast and now I’m off to work! Wish me luck for a good day and I can’t wait to let you know how it goes!

A: Wheeeee! DO tell all when you get back! Some of us have nothing to do but blog all day and need to live vicariously thru you.

for being a friend......

for being a friend......

I am a very bad bride :( I have not finished writing my thank you cards from the wedding yet, uh oh. Granted, we got married less than 2 months ago, I still feel bad. I have somewhere in the range of 92 thank you cards to write, and I’ve only written 45. Woops?I mean I wrote 100 before the wedding, so that’s got to count for something! My goal for this weekend is to finish writing them all and get them sent out on Monday! Think I can do it? How long of a grace period do I actually have after the wedding to get them out? Hmmm, I need to go find the motivation to do them, Maybe some yummy pancakes will get me going!

A: According to the etiquette books, you have 1 year. See! All the time in the world.

I just had the best day of my life. Period. First I spent the whole day showing mine and Jeff’s friend and former groomsmen, Michael, around the city. He runs a great video blog of his own, so I’m including some of his videos taken from today. It was awesome, and so much fun to show someone around my new home! We saw the Statue of Liberty, hit up the Financial District, checked out Wall Street, went into Tiffany’s (love it), walked up 5th avenue, checked out Grand Central, and then headed toward Central Park.

Along the way, we passed by St. Patrick’s Cathedral and we noticed a big crowd gathered around and with lots of onlookers. Curious, I decided to investigate. Well today’s Saturday, so that means one thing: WEDDINGS. Oh happy day I was so excited. It was definitely a black tie affair. There were people everywhere in tuxes and formal gowns and then the limos arrived. The wedding party got out and paraded across the street and I couldn’t help but laugh. They were wearing the ugliest dresses that I think I have ever seen. I couldn’t get to my camera fast enough before they were whisked away into the cathedral, but picture it: long formal gowns with light grey halter tops and pepto bismal floor length skirts. Yuck. And then we see the groomsmen coming down the street lined up in “V” formation and stopping traffic. They were in full tails, wow. It was actually really cool and surreal to see a wedding happening in the city; very cool experience indeed. But oh, it gets better. We arrive at Central Park and decide to stop by the Plaza and check out the inside. And then it hit me. We were in The Plaza Hotel. It is a Saturday. It is the summer. Sweet Jesus there is definitely something wedding related going on somewhere in this hotel! Time to investigate! And so we carefully plotted our undercover reconnaissance mission to find the legendary Grand Ballroom. We find the elevators and make our way to the third floor. The doors open and I wanted to cry. We hit the mother load of all wedding receptions. Witness Exhibit A:

Hello gorgeous escort card table!

Hello gorgeous escort card table!

I about fell over. I mean this looks like something straight out of a Preston Bailey magazine, (who I would totally cheat on Martha Stewart with. Sorry Martha, but it’s Preston!). It can’t possibly get any better. Ha, yea right. Lets take a little peek around the corner into the Grand Ballroom, shall we?

Are you freaking kidding me?
