Karen and anyone else in NYC who reads this, you guys have an assignment. Get on The Satorialist. I’m not sure where he hangs out, so just start wandering the streets looking your most fabulous, or according to this article do at least one of these 5 things:

1. Cutely ride a bike.

2. Be pretentious.

3. Be a French home-wrecker.

4. Pretend you live in the past.

5. Don’t smile.

Here’s a video about the blog and a chance to see the man behind the camera. If you see him and he asks to take your picture, say YES!

And in case you didn’t see Glee this week, The Satorialist was mentioned as naming Brittany “The most fashionable teen in America.” Hehe.

I have the day off of work today, hooray! I had big plans for this day which centered primarily on me getting my life together. I guess that sounds a bit more dramatic than I intended, but do you ever get into one of those ruts when you honestly feel like you just need to hit the re-set button and make a change? Well that’s what today was supposed to be, my re-set button day. This is what my ambitious to-do list looked like for today:

Wake-Up by 7:30am

Morning reading

Gym/Swim for an hour

Shower

Breakfast

Log-In to work to organize inbox from the weekend

BLOG!

Clean the entire apartment, including doing the laundry and mopping the floors

Send the 458 emails that I’ve been meaning to do

Pay a much needed visit to the grocery store

Plan dinner using the groceries I buy

Walk Willie

Surprise Jeff and bake homemade chocolate chip cookies

Catch up on Mad Men

And this is what I actually got accomplished:

My alarm clock (Willie) slept in until 9:00

I did accomplish my morning reading so props to me for that

Breakfast

Blogging

Shopped online at Target, (got some super cute booties though!!)

Sent massive amounts of emails, I’ll just pat myself on the back for that one.

Craved a chocolate cupcake from Magnolia Bakery

….?

So essentially….I accomplished almost nothing and I only left the apartment once today to get coffee (“Breakfast”). But I did brave 40 degree temperatures and down pouring rain, so I guess I get bonus points for putting in a good effort. Right? Yes? Anyone? Bueller? Gah, what is wrong with me?! I just completely wasted my day!

I should probably at least go shower. Jeff might appreciate that.

I think it rained everywhere in the country today. I feel like everyone’s Facebook statuses included some varying degree of complaining about the rain. But not me! I love when it rains in the city. Why’s that? Oh you know why!

These babies!

Yes! The return of my Aubergine Hunter Rain Boots for those rainy fall days in NYC. Bring em on!

So, when Jeff and I first moved to NYC I used to get a real kick out of those people that we’d see walking down the sidewalk practicing the opening number to whatever Broadway show they were rehearsing for, (or pretending to rehearse for?) Seriously, it was hysterical. Full hair, full makeup and fully dancing their way down the street, headphones in and ignoring the rest of the world. I laughed at them. Jeff avoided contact with them and mumbled something about weirdos under his breath, but I laughed out loud at them.

Well, funny time is over my friends. Because on Friday, it became official. I became one of them. I had an appearance to dance in that evening and I was particularly nervous about it. So, in went my headphones and I skipped and danced the whole way to the subway and on the subway. It was shameless. Full makeup, huge hair and jazz hands included. All I needed was a little glitter and some lights and I would have been set to go. I had no shame, I looked like an idiot, Jeff would have walked on the other sidewalk to get away from me if he was with me. But I didn’t care. I was ready to perform and perform I did! Next time I should bring a tip jar I guess.

My Name is Earl

On the road again! Err…actually, in the air again. Or at least trying to get in the air again. Remember a few months back where it seemed like every time I blogged about flying home it was always followed up with another post cursing mother nature and her shenangians? Well, dear readers, she strikes again. Jeff and I are heading south for Labor Day Weekend; that is if a little hurricane system named Earl doesn’t get in our way.

Honestly, I really think people up here are freaking out for no reason. I’m pretty sure this hurricane isn’t heading straight for the city, but people sure are acting like it. Several flights have already been canceled, and I’m crossing my fingers and toes that ours is not. So keep thinking good thoughts for us that our plane makes a safe trip down to NC hurricane free :)

Check out these old school pics of the NYC subway. Interestingly enough, there are some subway cars that still look like this….minus the MCHammer haircuts, and blinding sweater patterns. The saxophone players are still there though. And the graffiti. Ohhhh the graffiti.

Pretty sure I saw this guy the other day.

That’s what Jeff and I have been for the past few weeks, but I’m happy to say that we are all moved in to our new apartment now! After several hours of painting walls and one too many trips to IKEA, we can now be pretty proud of our little home :) It’s been nice making this place feel like us, and Willie seems to be pretty happy with his new digs too! Check out the finished product!

The kitchen that I already blogged about. Still kinda proud of it :)

One side of the living room. Jeffers picked out both paint colors, way to go! We still need something to go over the coach. Baby steps though.

Our hallway. Bookshelf and baskets all from IKEA.

Other side of the living room. We still shamelessly display our wedding pictures…everywhere. It’s a shrine. I swear we have friends.

This is what we like to call our “breakfast nook.” The fact that we can have a breakfast nook in the city makes us ridiculously happy. And there are more wedding pictures, sigh.

And finally the bedroom. No, it’s not very manly, poor Jeffy. But he seems to be OK with it. Maybe.

Still more to do, but we’re taking a break for now!!

Well, Mother Nature totally has my number. We were supposed to fly home this weekend for Jeff’s birthday and to visit friends at Elon and what do you know…our flight got cancelled because of the snow. Shocking. Oh well, looks like we’ll be snowed in for the weekend. I made my way out to Central Park early this morning before the snow picked up again and managed to get some pictures. Hope everyone’s staying dry and warm this weekend! To my Elon dance team girls, good luck this weekend, so sorry I cannot be there. And to my EK family, I’m sad I won’t be there for the new additions. Give them a squeeze from me and I’ll be sure to visit again soon :)

Yep, that’s me :) Remember that blog post a while back about how much I hate grocery shopping in the city? How you have to map out a serious game plan and gather up an army of help in order to be able to bring home your big haul of groceries? Yea, well, that was the OLD Karen. I’d like to introduce you to the NEW Karen.

Blogger Friends, meet Fresh Direct!

Why in the world I waited this long to discover this wonderful little treat, I do not know, but let me tell you, it has changed my life! No more hauling groceries in the snow. No more “mini” grocery trips during the week because Jeff and I can’t lug everything home all at once. No sir, those are the days of old. Now, we order our groceries online and they’re delivered to our door the very next day for a ridiculously cheap flat delivery rate, (and you get free delivery for your first three shopping trips!) The delivery man even took them into my kitchen and piled them neatly on the counters for me. (Side note: I repeatedly tried to help him but he kept refusing).

These trucks are all over the city, I have no idea how I ignored them until now?

To make this long love story short, I feel like I have hit a gold mine. All of Fresh Direct’s food is unbelievably fresh and most of their fruits and vegetables are locally grown. Their prices are beyond better than the grocery stores’ in the city (we’re talking a savings of $1.00-$2.00 on each item). We were able to shave off at least $50 on our grocery bill by using Fresh Direct. Jeff and I usually grocery shop every 3 weeks and pretty much go till the fridge runs out. Just how wonderful is Fresh Direct? We were able to get 4 beautifully cut pork chops, 2 salmon fillets, fresh shrimp, lean ground beef and a plethora of additional grocery goodies (both “organic” and name brand items) and our grocery bill was under $150! I know that sounds kinda expensive and a lot of food for only 2 people, but we spread it out over 3 weeks. Not a bad deal, right?!

I’m in heaven.
