planes20trains2020automobilesI just got my directions on how to get to Karen’s apartment in midtown Manhattan. I’m literally living the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Except, instead of John Candy, I’m lugging a suitcase and my dog Jack across the country.

Here’s the plan: First I hop a shuttle to SFO. Then, I fly from SFO to JFK direct (yay). Then, I hop a train that takes me to the subway that eventually takes me to Manhattan. Then, once I hop off that, I have to hail a cab to take me to the apartment. I’m tired just typing this! Then I have to do the reverse at 5am the Sunday after Thanksgiving! I will be paying the exorbitant amount to take a cab that day.

KrispyKreme

Whew! What a weekend. A fun, but way too short weekend at home. We thought we would touch down at RDU by 9:00pm on Friday, but due to “plane maintenance” we had to sit through 3 hours of the pilot telling us we would “take off momentarily.” Dirty liar. 11:30pm rolled around and we finally found the south. Woooohooo! The parentals picked us up from the airport, there were hugs and kisses and then we stole the car and high tailed it to Chapel Hill. We hung out with friends at Topo, and enjoyed some delicious drunk food at Time Out, and then finally made it home around 4:30am. Ouch.

8:00am the next morning, we were up and bright eyed and bushy tailed. Umm, not. But never the less, it was football Saturday and we had to push through the pain. We had a blast at the Carolina/ECU game, but only made it till halftime until the heat did a number on our hungover selves. So we made our way back to the frat house and enjoyed the rest of the game in the air conditioning. I found it really hard to leave after the game, there were definitely a few tears welling up. Thankfully I had sunglasses on; I hate saying goodbye to friends. But we were off to the Elon/Wake game, where I would get to see even more friends and see my school play football………or not play football. Wow, we were awful and totally did not deserve to be on that field. Hats off to Wake, you destroyed us. Guess that means I lost the bet, Anna, I’ll let you know when I streak through Central Park.

But the best part about the weekend: Getting lost on the way home but still managing to find a Krispy Kreme with the “Hot Now” sign on. Hot Krispy Kreme donuts are like a religious experience. So Jeff had 4, Dad had 4, I had 2 and Mom had 1. Pretty much an even spread. And then we all made our way home, stomach aches and all.

We spent the next day with Jeff’s family and had a yummy lunch and then flew back to NYC, (delayed again!). It was much harder to leave than I thought it would be. There were tons of tears and my eye makeup was officially gone by the time we touched down in NYC, but we’re here and back into our schedules. Living up here is still quite the adjustment, but hopefully in time it will be much easier.

A: Whew glad I don’t have to streak over Golden Gate. I think I’d startle people into jumping. Sorry about the tears. I can definitely say I know how you feel. You’ve seen me burst into tears at the airport, even when i’m trying so hard not to. It gets easier, but you always feel bad about leaving, then you settle back into your life. Just think, we’re all coming up to the Big Apple for Thanksgiving. Whooohoo! Look out!

FAIL

Geez, so my seester had to get on me tonight because basically I have been an absolute disappointment. Ok, well she didn’t exactly put it that harshly, but she did bring it to my attention that I kind of suck at blogging. I mean if you saw how often I update my twitter…well…you get the picture. Anywho, I really need to get better at this whole blogging thing STAT. So, I’m going to sit my little butt down right now and blog about the happenings from my week, all while enjoying one of my wonderful Mario Badescu deep cleansing masks, it smells like flowers :)

Here goes!

A: Oh great draw MORE attention to the fact that I have no life.

Curses!

Curses!

Is mother nature playing a trick on me? Like seriously. Did I actually move to Seattle by accident? I am so sick of rain! We’ve been here for almost 2 months and I’d say that it’s rained at least 4-5 weeks. Boo. And guess what happened to me this morning? So, I decided to wear white pants to work, stupid decision, considering it started pouring when I walked outside. Ugh, Karen. Anyway, I’m waiting for the bus, listening to my iPod when a cabby comes screaming around the corner, hits a puddle and sends nasty, muddy, city rain water splashing all over me. Yea, I was that girl, wearing white pants, covered in muddy water. Ick.

But everything was OK because when I got to work, one of our clients delivered cupcakes to everyone at the office! Sweet :)

New York, New York!

New York, New York!

BAM! Beat that view playa. Well, actually I will forfeit and say that your view from your roof deck is prettier than ours, but still, I love NYC! The picture below is the view that Jeff and I wake up to every morning:

Helloooooooooo Jersey!

Helloooooooooo Jersey!

I love being able to look out over the Hudson River. A little random fact: Sully landed the plane in the Hudson right outside our window…but we weren’t here to see it because we hadn’t moved in yet. The stories we’ve heard about it are quite impressive though! I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that he actually landed the plane so gracefully in the river. And finally, the view from our living room:

Pretty City :)

Pretty City :)

Not really sure what that smoke stack is or what it does, but I still like being up high and able to see out. I’m slowly becoming a city girl and starting to love my new home!

A: I’ll have to say our view from our apartment is not nearly as grand. It looks across the street at some nice big houses that can probably see directly into our apartment. I’m sure they’ve gotten an eye full.
