So I left New York today after having stayed with Karen for a week. I’m sure she’s tired of me using her living room as a bedroom. It was great visiting friends and family and NYC – I will miss you, but not your cold gray weather. Brrrr!

One of my favorite parts of the trip was a speakeasy my friend KT took me to on Saturday called PDT short for “Please Don’t Tell.” It’s a secret bar within a hot dog shop. You have to walk into the hot dog place, then go into the phone booth inside and dial a number on the phone. Then a wall in the phone booth opens up and a woman takes you inside a dark candlelit bar with cute bartenders that serve yummy strong cocktails. You can even order hotdogs from the place next door and they slide them through a cubby hole into the bar.

I love speakeasies! I’m sad San Francisco only has one :( I will definitely have to go to more when I go back to New York.

Pop Quiz

Here’s a quick multiple choice quiz for you. As I sit here writing this blog post, is it currently:

A. Raining so hard I may need an ark to get down 42nd street in the morning.

B. Hailing ice golf balls of death.

C. So windy our windows are shaking….I’m not kidding.

D. Blizzarding.

E. Thundering and Lightning like a fool.

F. All of the above.

The correct answer?

Closet Crisis

I had a girly meltdown this morning. You know the one where you look at the clothes in your closet and see nothing. Or at least see nothing worth wearing. I stared for a while. Flipped through. No outfit ideas were forming. Then I flipped back through in a panic realizing that it was already after 9. Usually when this happens, I either end up wearing a bizarre concoction of items that I convince myself make an “eclectic fashion-forward” outfit, while in the back of mind wonder if I just look like some crazy street performer. OR I come out of the closet wearing my old standby jeans and a black shirt. That’s what happened this morning. Fortunately I had enough sense to grab a scarf to make it some sort of an “outfit,” rather than lazy emo girl.

The designers of Melangerie Inc. designed the cutest dirty laundry stationery. I’m not exactly sure what I’d do with it, but I can’t help but want a set. If I had a laundry room I’d probably hang it up in there. Oooh or maybe decorate my cubicle with it. Hmm…

They come in all different color clothes. I picked the red to show you guys:

I took these photos on my iPhone when I was in New York over Thanksgiving. I totally forgot I had them until I updated my phone tonight. I love Anthropologie’s window displays. They’re always so creative! Here are a few of their windows at the Midtown store.

Well it’s official, we have our tree. However, our adventure to find our perfect tree was just slightly different than Anna and Randy’s. We didn’t have to drive anywhere to find the cold. One, because we don’t have a car. And two, because the cold is already here; it snowed for the first time yesterday, brrr. And due to the absence of a car, we had to carry our tree like pack mules down the street a few blocks back to our apartment, knocking over small children along the way. We looked funny and got lots of bizarre stares. But it was totally worth it!

TaDa!

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

"It's the most wonderful time of the year!"

He’s a big guy, a lot bigger than we anticipated we were going to get. But we got him for a great deal and he fits in the apartment perfectly! We love him, he’s our first Christmas tree for our first Christmas :)

Ahhh, well, now that the family has officially vacated the state of New York our apartment is slowly starting to take shape again and we’re getting our lives back! We had an awesome time while they were here and we got to do lots of fun things that Anna so eloquently updated you on, (cough, cough Robert Pattinson, swoon!) during her visit. But now that things are a bit quieter, I can finally reveal my new little big splurge for our living room:

Before...

Before...

After!

After!

Tada! It’s no Pottery Barn catalog, but Jeff and I were being suffocated by all of our books, so it was time to invest in some sturdy new bookcases. And boy did IKEA come to the rescue. We picked these babies up for $60 a piece, a steal! Especially considering we had a lovely gift card, (Thanks David, Christine and Faith!) I know right now it seems like there’s a TON of wedding pictures on display, or as Anna called it, “The Shrine to Jeff and Karen,” but a lot of them are going to be moved to the bedroom….which is still a disaster area.

Oh well, baby steps.
