Mad Men

So since it’s Cyber Monday evening and I had a little down time at work, teehee, I put together some holiday party ensembles from ModCloth. Not only is it important to have a rockin’ holiday dress, but you can’t forget the fabulous coat that will complete the look! I have a severe weakness for outerwear. If I had money to waste, I’d own about 12 winter coats. And I live in San Francisco where the coldest it gets is about 40–maybe. My other weakness is cute shoes. Especially ones with fun details. They can always spice up a boring dress.
So without further ado, here are some “themes” I put together for your viewing (and shopping) pleasure.

Trudy’s little nightie on Mad Men last night was hilarious. There is no way in hell I would wear something that short and that frilly 9 months preggers. She looked like one of those pink snowball cakes with legs.

See?

And on a completely unrelated note, look what I found while Googling “Hostess Snowballs.”

I saw this poster in Peggy’s office. It was created by the D. Stempel AG type foundry in 1960. It’s an awesome subtle way of showing how the “scrappy upstart” agency is getting with the times. Yeah Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce!

This is the first post of many I will be making about 60s fashion. I looooove it. All the gogo boots, mini skirts, big hair and crazy colors. Yes, there will be much more to come. But for now, here’s a little history fact I learned. Jean Shrimpton (pictured below) was the first to coin the term “mini skirt.” She was considered the icon of “Swinging London” and one of the world’s first super models. She actually came a little before Twiggy and broke the model mold with her long legs and slim figure. She was known for her “long hair with bangs, wide doe-eyes ,long wispy eyelashes, arched brows, and pouty lips.”

I’m finally all caught up and can’t wait to watch the new season of Mad Men tonight. It’s 1964 now and times are a changin’. I’m excited to see all the new clothes and hairstyles!

Love this shoot from Vanity Fair last year.
