Jack

I’ve always wondered if, as a parent, I’d be able to sing songs to my kid like my mom did. She would always sing to us when we were little and perform at class parties with her guitar. I don’t exactly have a good voice, nor do I play the guitar, so I seriously worried that my kid was going to be deprived of this essential childhood ingredient. But then I got Jack. And granted he is not a human baby, he is still my baby. And though I still haven’t developed any amazing vocal skills, nor will I be performing at any dog parks soon, I have realized that singing comes naturally (even if it is bad) when you love your little one.

I put together a few “original tracks” that I’ve written for the little guy. They’ll be available on iTunes shortly. You can check out the sweet lyrics for now.

Jacky Jacky Bear, Jacky Bear

He’s a Jacky Jacky Jacky Bear

He’s a Jacky Bear, He’s a Jacky Bear

He’s a Jacky Jacky Jacky Bear

You’re the puppy guy and I’m the daddy guy

You’re the puppy guy and I’m the daddy guy

and she’s the mommy guy

(repeat)

He’s a Bear

Jacky Bear

He’s a bear

He’s a  little bitty bear

(chorus)

He’s a bear, he’s a bear

He’s a little bitty bear

Do the poopoo handstand!

Flip!

I bought a Flip Mino HD camera for Randy (but really for me) for his birthday. I freakin’ love it! It’s teeny, it fits in my purse and it can record over an hour of video. We took it to Tahoe with us and shot all kinds of little videos like this one:

Randy, Jack and I went to Lake Tahoe for President’s Day weekend. I am not a big skier so we decided to give snowmobiling a try instead. It was so much fun! Randy and I shared one “mobile” together and rode with a tour group. They take you all over the mountain and you can stop and take pictures. I had to wear a kid’s XL helmet b/c my head is mini. (I’m not wearing my helmet in the photo because  I looked like a dorkus in it. Safety first! Fashion second.) Our snowmobile was like the luxury edition too  btw with hand-warmers on the handlebars and a leather backrest. Very swank. I highly recommend giving it a try next time you’re in a snowy place. They’re not the cheapest to rent, but it’s worth the extra cash. Trust me. Plus you look like a bad ass riding one. Yeeeaaah.

Annnnd we’ve got videos.

In case you’re wondering, we did not take the JackJack snowmobiling. I think he was happy about that too.

It started sometime in 2007 around November when we got Jack as a puppy. The balance of power was still in our favor. But slowly the little furry guy wormed his way into our hearts and even further into our bed and the balance of power began to shift. Note Figure A:

I got a new camera for Christmas, the Canon Digital Rebel XSi. It’s way fancier than my little point and shoot camera that I had. I love being able to use it manually and hold it to my eye like a real camera. And it makes that clicky noise that my film camera made. I just love that noise! I feel like I’m a real photographer!

So I’m still reading the manual about what all this puppy can do, but I took some experimental shots just to start playing with it tonight. Guess who was my test subject? Hehe.

I also managed to shoot an innocent bystander.

Here is more evidence that we should probably have a kid. I tortured dressed Jack up as Santa Claus this weekend and took some pictures. I can’t decide if he likes his little Santa sweater or not. After trying to bite the collar off for an hour, he surrendered. Check out my attempts at capturing the cuteness on film:

Doggie Costumes

Jack needs a costume and I can’t decide what he should be. Last year he was a little devil dog with patent leather wings and shiny red horns. So cute. This year I can’t decide. I sort of want to find a little kid’s puppy costume and dress him up as a dog just for the irony. No?

Here are a few options I threw out but I don’t think Jack liked them.

OMG. I just found out the Wiener Nationals are coming to town this weekend. We have got to go! This is hilarious. It’s like a mini Kentucky Derby. Watch this and wait for the giant wiener mascot to come out to congratulate them.

Oooh, I wonder if they have any Yorkie-mix races.

Jack and Mainerd

This is Jack’s stuffed friend Mainerd (from Maine). Jack likes to drag Mainerd around the room by the tail and bite his nose. No wonder he has a Napoleon complex.

Terrible Terrible 2′s

peeoncouch

Jack has really done it this time. We take him with us almost everywhere, let him sleep in our bed, feed him In N Out Burger for his birthday, and how does he repay us? By peeing on the couch. I could take the little temper tantrums when we leave, the knocking over of the food bowl, the knocking over of our CHAIR (it’s plastic Ikea), but this THIS peeing on the couch protest is where I draw the line. I may have to put him in doggy military school if he keeps this up. What happened to my little doggy angel that barely makes a peep?

doggypic(Note: Not my hands)

DSC02704I always wondered why he was the last puppy to be taken.

UPDATE: I obviously have been doing everything wrong. And though I can’t afford Caesar Milan, I think I might have to get this book and learn more about Jack’s little vindictive brain.
