Just kidding. I found this photo on Apartment Therapy. Evidently it’s a Japanese fruit called an Aomikan. It’s a green tangerine with orange flesh (see photo above). I don’t really care what it is, I just think it looks cool. Every time I walk through Chinatown (yes I know China is different than Japan but Japantown is not near my apartment) – Anyway, every time I walk through Chinatown I’m always curious about the crazy foods they have on display at the markets. Some of them look downright scary, all spiny and gnarly. I’d be open to trying new fruits and veggies though (not so open to the meats).

I had to go buy some stamps today so I could mail my welfare unemployment check. The only post office open on a Saturday afternoon is the Chinatown one. So Jack and I walked downtown through the Chinatown blocks packed with tourist families and ancient Chinese women carrying their pink bags. I had to carry him part of the way so he wouldn’t get stepped on. It also doesn’t help that he’s a racist dog and barks at half of the people we pass. But anyway, we make it to the post office fully expecting to have to wait in line forever, but instead we’re greeted by 2 people in line! And 3 windows are open!! This is probably about the third time Randy or I have used this post office and I have to say, we’ve never had to wait long in line. Most of the time there isn’t a line at all. It makes no sense! Usually all post offices are understaffed and have like 1 window open. And if it’s 2, there’s always that one window being held up by someone with a “problem” package. It makes no sense that Chinatown of all places would have the most efficient post office in the city, but based on my experiences, it definitely is. Now if we could do something about the weird smells and animal carcasses hanging out next door, we’d be golden.
