My little boy is growing up so fast! Today is Willie’s first birthday and it really feels like we just brought him home!

It was Christmas Day when Jeff told me we were getting a puppy…

And I had no idea what a perfect fit you would be in our little family :)

We brought you home in your little bag…

And fell in love with you immediately :)

You are snuggly and cute…

And always make us laugh :)

You love to play fetch…

And you’re the perfect alarm clock in the morning.

Playing in the park is your favorite thing in the world!

You love your sister Patsy…

And your cousin Jack too! Even if it has to be at a friendly distance :)

But most of all…

I LOVE YOU!

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY WILLIE!! CAN’T WAIT TO CELEBRATE IN CENTRAL PARK ON SATURDAY!

Well, if Anna thinks she’s being a loser for Halloween, then I’m the ultimate loser. I have no plans and no costume; I’m not even going out. I mean I have a valid excuse. I have a game tomorrow and an early call time, but boy do I miss dressing up and having fun on Halloween :( Instead, this year we dressed Willie up and paraded him around Central Park this morning. He went as a football, appropriately, but his costume was just a wee bit too snug. He didn’t mind though and he looked pretty darn cute :)

Monday night, circa 11:50pm. Jeff’s frustrated because he should be asleep by now. I’m clutching the covers to me because it feels like Antarctica in our room and Jeff  hogs the covers. Willie doesn’t seem tired and is running circles around the bed. He eventually shimmies his way down to the edge of the bed and makes his escape to the floor, which is a problem for us because he hasn’t learned to jump on the bed yet. Begin scene…

Jeff: “Ugh! He jumped on the floor again. I’m not getting him this time. I’m tired of chasing…..”

Me: “Shh! Just give him a second, I think he’s just thirsty.”

5 seconds pass.

Willie: “Slurp, slurp, slurp…..slurp, slurp.”

Jeff: “What are you, some kind of dog whisperer?”

Me: Smiling “No, I’m a mommy.”

End scene :)

Just Keep Swimming

Well, Willie took the plunge today…literally. The first time was by accident, but the second not so much. What am I talking about? While I was taking my shower this morning, I just happened to turn around, look down and find that my sweet little pup had decided to join me. He was just standing there, hanging out, letting the water hit his face and having a grand old time getting soaked. After recovering from my fit of laughter, I scooped him up, gave him a big wet kiss on the head and sent him on his way to shake it off and get the entire apartment soaked.

But then I got to thinking. I wonder what Willie would do if he found himself in a pool? Would he swim? Would he freak? Hmmmm. Well, after recounting Willie’s escapades to Jeffrey over dinner, we decided it would be a great idea to see what our little Williekins would do in deep-ish water. So we did what any normal couple would do….we filled up the bathtub as high as it would go and set Willie loose. Hilarity ensued. **Disclaimer, we are not bad parents. Willie was happy as a clam; only a tad bit terrified at first. He’s totally fine and currently taking a snooze in my lap, ENJOY :) *

Who you may ask? Martha Stewart of course. Jeff and Willie were watching TV over the weekend while I was barefoot and in the kitchen slaving over dinner (taking the delivery pizza out of the box) when I heard a PetSmart commercial come on. It’s sad that I know the familiar jingle that plays during that commercial, specifically because Willie gets so freaking excited when it comes on. Anyway, I returned to my tedious task of studying our medium sized pepperoni pizza and deciding which four slices were the biggest so I could give them to Jeff, leaving me with the smaller 4 pieces so I could reassure myself that I really didn’t eat half of the pizza, when I hear Jeff exclaim, “OH MY GOD.”

Thinking Willie had gotten stuck in the bathtub again, or under the TV console, or pooped somewhere, I came out of the kitchen ready to assist with the doggy problem only to find both of my guys still lounging on the couch: the furry one curled up on a pillow enjoying a pig ear (ew, see previous post), and the hubsters staring at the TV looking slightly annoyed. I turned my attention to the screen and that’s when I saw her. Martha, in all of her crafty-glory, delicately arranging plush looking doggy beds  on PetSmart shelves, and intricately hanging adorable patterned leash/collar sets along the aisles.  Martha Stewart Pets has officially launched.

I gazed over at my swine ear eating puppy, and Jeff reluctantly looked up at me knowing exactly what was going through my head. He’d seen that look on my face before. That look right before Martha somehow takes over another part of our lives. First, it was our wedding. Then, our kitchen. Our bedroom fell victim to her shortly there after. And now, poor Willie has no idea what he may be getting into.

Christmas has indeed come early for the little guy :)

Poor Willie. There’s just been so much going on in his little life recently that he’s having a very hard time adjusting. With moving to a new apartment and mommy’s new schedule, (ie I’m home for 2.5 seconds during the entire week), he’s starting to act out….which is totally understandable, poor little guy. So, luckily I was able to have most of the day off from work yesterday and I decided that it was time that the little man and I spent some good quality time together. We went on a nice long 2 hour walk where he met lots of fun doggy friends. He got to roll around in the green grass disgusting sidewalk concrete, and roll over and proudly display his junk to strangers as they walked by. What can I say, he certainly has zero modesty. But to cap the whole day off, I took him to his favorite pet treat store to pick him out some yummy and of course healthy goodies to enjoy that night.

Willie’s acting out gets especially bad during meal times. You see, Willie discovered yummy people food by accident when mommy had an unfortuante run-in with the kitchen table and dropped her dinner on the floor, much to the delight of one furry little guy. Christmas came early that night for Willie. There was no turning back then. Ugh. But, back to the pet store. I explained to the lady working there that I needed a mealtime snack that we could give Willie to keep him distracted long enough for us to enjoy our dinner in peace. Afterall, because of our insane schedules, Jeff and I eat about 3 meals a week together, so we’d like to enjoy them ya know? But we also certainly don’t want our little guy feeling like he’s being ignored, so there had to be a happy medium, right?

So the lady at the store was very much into the whole “organic process of letting your dog find the treat that best suits him instead of the owner forcing him to eat one that they buy” thing, and we set off parading Willie up and down each aisle letting him sniff and lick (gross?) the different treats. There were dozens of different treats. All different shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors. There were training treats, milk bones, Kongs etc. Willie had to find one he liked, right? Unfortunately, yes. Unfortunately because out of all of the treats, which one does Willie choose to like the best? The Pig Ears. Um, ew. Really Willie? A pig ear? I mean it’s a legit pig ear. I looked at the lady with a look of horror on my face as Willie’s face lit up like a Christmas tree as he buried his head into the pile of ears, snatched up his favorite one and  danced back down the store aisle with his new swine friend in mouth. Ick.

Well, regardless of how disgusting it is, it definitely works. And it’s actually a very healthy treat which makes mommy happy. Even better, these piggy ears are only 99 cents! Jeff literally told me to buy out the store when he found out how well they worked. So, this is a warning to all farmers, lock up your piggies, I’ve got a hungry puppy on my hands!

Happy birfday to my Auntie Anna! I can’t wait to meet you!!! As you can see in my picture above, I’m proudly wearing the awesome shirt you got me. It used to fit me much better when I wasn’t so big, but I still like to strut my stuff in it….even if I can’t really breathe. Mommy thinks that’s hysterical. Mommy’s very mean.

Where’s Willie?

Well, tonight I about had a heart attack. I couldn’t find Willie. He was nowhere in sight. He wouldn’t come when I called him and I didn’t hear so much as a peep from him. I started freaking out. Did he jump out the window? No, no, no, no! Not possible. Did he run out the door? No?

WILLIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!?!?!?!

Oh, you fell in the laundry hamper and couldn’t get out? Hmmmm, perhaps that’s a sign that mommy needs to to laundry.
