Ok, first off, I’ll admit I find these virtual graves a little freaky, and gross too for some reason. I can’t put my finger on why I find it gross? Maybe because it’s not organic and seems horribly unnatural. I dunno. And there is tons of room for jokes – like if someone hacked into this thing and texted you from the dead. “Get me outta here!” or Grandpa haunting you through your facebook page – “Grandpa Likes your photo.” How can that be!?
BUT, I do think at the root of it, E-tombs are not a bad idea. I’m not sure I completely understand how it works, but I do think having a virtual place in the internet world where family and friends can go to to view and share photos and stories of their loved one is a nice idea. We do live in a world where a lot of our information is already on the web- Facebook profiles, Twitter accounts, blogs, Flickr photos etc – what happens to it all when we die? It seems like a shame to just delete it, so why not move it all to a space reserved for the deceased. A virtual grave if you will. I know it’s new and weird, but I think it’s got legs. I’m not saying we should get rid of grave sites, b/c not having something physical seems scary to me like what if something goes wrong one day and the internet goes POOF kinda scary. But I’m not totally opposed to this new techy grave idea. I’m open to it.
So if we go kaputz, all of you can still visit 2SistersBlog. WHEW. I know you were worried.
