Democracy Shmemocracy!

Usually I try to keep this blog lighthearted and fun and not get into too many controversial issues beyond who’s the hottest Twilight stud or which Anthro dress is cuter, but I couldn’t overlook what happened today and since it’s half my blog, I’ve got to share a piece of my mind.

The Supreme Court’s ruling for unlimited political spending by corporations is really quite terrifying. No really. People are calling it a “dark day for Americans.” Images of Wall-E came to mind. Yes I said Wall-E. You know, when the Earth is run by the corporation Buy N Large and the world goes to crap and all the humans have to move to space. Yeah, well my mind jumped there when I heard this news. You may laugh, but think of the ramifications.

Under today’s decision, insurance companies, banks, drug companies, energy companies, whoever will be free to each spend millions of dollars of corporate funds to elect or defeat a candidate – this means that they can essentially buy influence over the candidate’s positions on issues of economic importance to the companies.

How in ANY way possible is this good news for Americans? Who wants a country run by Exxon?? I don’t want my president’s decisions to be based on what benefits some corporation. What happened to a government of the people, by the people, for the people?

That’s it. I’m packing for space.

Save me a spot on the space shuttle. Just when I thought we couldn’t make it any more corrupt than it already is, this comes along.

I’m with you. That was a horrible decision, and a dark day, indeed, for Americans. With all the political issues of this week bumming me out, I’m seriously considering finding some Canadian hunk to marry and make way for Canada….. I just can’t really believe that the Supreme Court thought this was a good idea?

Agreed. Bad news. Not cool. And you know what this also means? Every time it’s election season, we’re going to be bombarded by 28453084765734 times more political commercials than we already are. I hate political commercials. I hate spin. But all politicians do it.

Meanwhile Borders is throwing away books rather than donate them to libraries who are absolutely throttled with cuts by the recession.

Corporations are not people, and yet the SC treats them as if they are. People can act morally and just (on occasion), but corporations do not.

No matter your political leanings, we’re all getting sold down the river on this one.
